Shelby Karpman

Dr. Karpman completed his undergraduate studies at McGill University in Montreal and followed this with a Masters Degree in Health Administration from the University of Ottawa. He completed his medical degree at the University of Alberta. Following the completion of his Family Practice Residency, he entered the Sport Medicine Fellowship at the Glen Sather Sport Medicine Clinic in Edmonton in 1989 and received his Diploma in Sport Medicine in 1990, joining HealthPointe as a consultant in 2008.

 

Dr. Karpman has served as the medical consultant for the Canadian Forces Base Edmonton, as well as the varsity athletic teams at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Concordia University College, and the University of Alberta. He also served as team physician for the Edmonton Oil Kings Hockey Club and the Edmonton Rush Lacrosse Club. He is currently the Team Physician for the University of Alberta Golden Bears hockey and wrestling teams. He is the Chief Medical Advisor for the Edmonton Combative Sports Commission and has travelled internationally on numerous occasions with Canadian athletics, wrestling and rugby teams.

 

Dr. Karpman is a clinical lecturer in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Alberta and is a past President of the Alberta Medical Association Section of Sport and Exercise Medicine.
